Defense International Environmental Program Home

The international program in ESOH is responsible for establishing policy and oversight of DOD overseas environmental programs to ensure the sustainability of operations and mission support. This includes:

  • Providing environmental subject matter expertise during negotiations for overseas U.S. basing/stationing/presence agreements
  • Engaging with other nations’ defense departments on environmental topics through the Defense Environmental International Cooperation (DEIC) program
  • Reviewing the performance of the Military Departments’ environmental overseas programs (as part of ESOH’s annual environmental management review)

The DEIC program is the primary instrument used to support environmental engagement activities by the geographic Combatant Commands.
