Welcome to the Sustainable Procurement Program

Definition

DoD sustainable procurement means the cost-effective acquisition of products and services using sustainable practices, pursuant to federally mandated procurement preference programs and in benefit to the mission.

Goal

Achieve 100% compliance with mandatory Federal sustainable procurement programs in all acquisition transactions, from major systems programs to individual unit supply and service requisitions.

Purpose

DoD’s Sustainable Procurement Program (SPP) works to enhance and sustain mission readiness with cost-effective acquisition that achieves compliance, protects warfighter and worker health and safety, reduces resource consumption and pollution, and improves efficiency.

As the single largest buyer of supplies and services throughout the government, DoD strives to ensure that every procurement meets the requirements of applicable Federal sustainable procurement preference programs.  DoD’s SPP is focused not only on the procurement function but also on the roles and responsibilities of each member of the Department and recognizes that every person has a role to play.
