DoD/EPA Derived Ecological Screening Values

Home

Provided here is the Final Report that describes the ecological screening values (ESVs) that have been developed to support screening-level ecological risk assessments at U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) sites where per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) have been detected in soils and surface waters. The ESVs, developed for a study set of eight PFAS compounds, represent PFAS concentrations in surface soil and surface water at or below which chronically exposed biota are not expected to be adversely affected and ecological impacts are unlikely.

These ESVs support the screening level steps of U.S. Environmental Protection Agencyโ€™s Ecological Risk Assessment Guidance for Superfund, and may be applied at sites undergoing investigation for the historic release or disposal of PFAS within DOD environmental restoration program to identify whether PFAS concentrations pose potential unacceptable ecological risks.
