  • Fort Greely, AK (subsequently reversed)
    • Fort Greely was designated for closure/realignment under the 1995 Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. In 2001, Congress reversed the BRAC disposition when Public Law 107‑20 authorized the Secretary of Defense to retain all or portions of Fort Greely to meet missile defense requirements. Pursuant to this authority, the Department of the Army withdrew the surplus property determination, effectively removing Fort Greely from the BRAC disposal process and enabling its reactivation in support of the Ground‑Based Midcourse Defense mission.
  • Fort Buchanan, PR (subsequently withdrawn)
    • Fort Buchanan was designated for realignment under the 1995 Defense Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Commission. In August 1999, the Secretary of the Army removed the Fort Buchanan realignment action from the BRAC process, retaining the installation to meet ongoing operational, training, and strategic requirements in Puerto Rico. As a result, Fort Buchanan was effectively withdrawn from BRAC implementation and continues to serve as an active Army installation.
