Big Coppitt Key


BRAC Summary: Big Coppitt Key, an island near Key West, consists of approximately five acres and 3,000 square feet of facilities. Big Coppitt Key formerly provided communications support to United States Army. Since the Army no longer uses Big Coppitt Key, it is excess and to Army requirements. Closing Big Coppitt Key will save base operations and maintenance hinds and provide reuse opportunities.

Property Description: The Ground-To-Air Transmitter and Receiver (GATR) Site on Big Coppitt Key, FL consisted of approximately 3,000 square feet of facilities on 5.45 acres of land. The site is located off of U.S. Route 1 in Monroe County, approximately ten miles east of Key West. At the time of closure, the GATR Site consisted of a vacant pre-1965 construction building (2,586 square foot, single-story concrete block building) and several inactive non-functional antennas.
