This course, Advanced Historic Preservation Law & Section 106 Compliance, takes the next step after the “Introduction to Cultural Resource Management Laws and Regulations” emphasizing legal compliance (the National Historic Preservation Act Section 106 process). It addresses legislation and the process to meet the requirements of the law to help the student support DOD, Military Service and their installation’s mission.
It is a 3 day course 0800 – 1700 hrs everyday (Do Not Plan To Leave Early).
This course is Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) recognized and is approved by the Inter-Service Environmental Education Review Board (ISEERB). Sponsor for this course is the Navy Federal Preservation Officer. There are no tuition costs for this course.
It is recommended that this course be taken after completion of the “Introduction to Cultural Resource Management Laws and Regulations” course by: Primary duty (Cultural Resource Managers, Environmental Lawyers (or lawyers in that capacity), and Environmental staffs.); collateral duty personnel responsible for cultural resources management and compliance with Federal laws and DOD policy); and personnel that are non-cultural resources specialists (Civil Works Managers (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers), Facility planners; Range planners, etc.) having a direct or indirect impact on cultural resources during the performance of their duties.
This course is specifically required for Navy personnel positions listed under the Cultural Resources Compliance and Management of OPNAVINST 5090.1 (series) and OPNAV M-5090.1 (series).
