Course Description

GIS is a tool that can (1) increase program efficiency and cost effectiveness; (2) improve the ability to manage, analyze, and display data from a site and provide a link to historical data; and (3) improve the decision making and data transfer processes, reduce review time, and improve the quality of deliverables such that conclusions can be better defended. GIS software can also be used to perform a geostatistical analysis of environmental data.  Geostatistics is a tool that determines the spatial correlation within an observed sample data set and then uses the correlation to better estimate values at nearby locations where data has not been collected.

NOTE:  This five-day course is no longer being offered by  CECOS.  CLICK HERE for details about GIS courses being offered by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) that can meet  your training needs in this area. (Once you 'CLICK HERE'  and are redirected to the NETC GIS page,  click again on the 'CLICK HERE' to open the PDF document with details about the NGA GIS training.)

This CECOS course is currently being redesigned into a 2-3 day course to better meet the needs of Navy civilian and military personnel assigned as environmental managers in developing and implementing environmental data management systems incorporating GIS. Anticipate the launching of this new course in 2020.

In the meantime, NGA is offering multiple course offerings in FY19 to meet the Navy training need (click link in the above paragraph for course information and registration details).
