Property Description: Letterkenny Army Depot (LEAD) is located in south-central Pennsylvania in Franklin County, five miles north of the Borough of Chambersburg. Its facilities
include over 2,300,000 square feet of explosive storage space, 902 igloos, 26 rail docks, 28 miles of railroad, 126 miles of paved road, and a containerization facility. The Depot covers 19,243
acres, most of which is devoted to ammunition storage (16,614 acres). LEAD was placed on the Environmental Protection Agency’ s National Priority List (NPL) in 1987. There are two NPL sites:
Letterkenny Southeast Area and Letterkenny Property Disposal Office Area
